Val Gardena has a long tradition of woodcarving dating back to the middle of the 17th century. Arts and crafts have always played an important part in the life of the Demetz family too.
Oswald Demetz’s father was a turner and his mother was a carver. So Oswald became familiar with the skills of woodworking from an early age. In 1954 Oswald Demetz first learned the art of woodturning, and four years later he started an apprenticeship in woodcarving.
After serving a twelve-year apprenticeship, during which he developed great enthusiasm for this craft, Oswald Demetz set up his own business in 1966. Thanks to his dedication and hard work, the business quickly grew and soon made a name for itself.
In 1971 Oswald Demetz was finally awarded the well-deserved title of Master Woodcarver. By 1977 the business had grown considerably, and so it was moved to its present location at 38 str. Chemun, S.Cristina.
